Full course description

Explore basic concepts underlying genomics and its applications in public health, starting from introductory biology concepts, begin to understand how genomics can change public health practice, and take a deeper dive into concepts of genomics and public health. Learn how genomic technologies and public health practice work hand-in-hand to support each other and see how your own practice in public health and clinical spaces can support better genomics-driven insights into health in your own community.

Genomics is not a replacement for established public health practice; it is another tool that strengthens our insights, understanding, and response to public health events. But, without an understanding of these technologies and how public health practice supports them, they cannot be used to their fullest potential. MAAGE is excited to support more widespread understanding of these technologies in the state of Illinois and beyond through these course materials.

Materials were developed by the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in collaboration with advisory boards comprising public health officials and clinicians across the state of Illinois.
