Overview
This session will consist of a brief overview of what it means to have a trauma lens when looking at children and their families. This training will focus on unraveling the complexities of childhood trauma with a specific focus on what can lead to trauma and what trauma in children can look like. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to gain further insight and understanding on how to be a part of supporting others in healing from trauma.
Objectives
- Learn what can lead to trauma and how it often shows up in children.
- Define trauma, traumatic stress, and complex trauma and begin to understand the difference in how they affect us throughout the lifespan.
- Learn ways to care for ourselves so we can show up in a way that lends itself to healing in others.

Presenter: Amy Guy, LCPC – Owner and Therapist, The Wellness Loft
Amy Guy is a licensed clinical professional counselor. She began working as an inpatient substance abuse treatment center in 1997 and currently owns and directs the Wellness Loft, INC. She has been doing full-time therapy work since 2012 when the Wellness Loft began. She was a previous therapist for children in foster care and a previous trauma trainer for DCFS. She has moved from studying pathology and mental illness to studying resilience, strengths, and a healthy mind. She was part of the Effingham County Drug Court when it began in 2006 and mental health court and veterans court in 2013. Her passion is helping others achieve a state of wellness for mind, body, and spirit.
