CQI Excel Formulas, Functions, & Features Workshop (Non-CEU Version)

Full course description


This session is geared to CQI practitioners who have a basic understanding of Excel and an interest in increasing their knowledge of specific formulas, functions, and features. This is a demo-style, hands-on learning session.  Participants will be able to practice specific skills with the guidance of an Excel coach in breakout room Office Hours at the end of the session. A data file will be provided to follow along and practice the 3 demoed skills.  Computer access will be needed to participate. Step-by-step instructions will be provided.


  1. Participants will increase their knowledge and expertise in utilizing CountIF and SumIF formulas in Excel to analyze their data files. 
  2. Participants will increase their knowledge of how to separate data using the Text to Columns function. 
  3. Participants will increase their knowledge and expertise in the Pivot Table feature in Excel to be able to explore and summarize datasets to pull out key findings for reports to drive decision-making.

Kimberly Clark, Data Analyst Supervisor – Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois, Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Kimberly Clark is the Data Analyst Supervisor at Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois (LCFS). She works in the Data and Information Services (DIS) department where she develops processes and workflows for the agency’s client management system. Additionally, she trains and provides support to staff in utilizing the system. Kim manages the data for the agency’s Key Performance Indicators and leads the agency’s record review process. Kim has over 15 years of nonprofit experience working in program evaluation, data management, data analysis, and CQI. Kim holds a BA in Social Work from Providence College. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago. Kim spends her free time with her husband, son, and 2 bonus children when they are in town.

Alison Wagner, AM, LCSW, Director of Quality Improvement – UCAN, Chicago, IL

Alison is licensed clinical social worker and quality improvement practitioner based in Chicago, IL with 10+ years of dedication to ensuring that youth and families in marginalized communities receive high quality mental health services. She is currently a Program Evaluation Manager of Social Work and Community Health at RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago. She has experience in community mental health, residential treatment, foster care home study assessment, and research in community-based medical and mental health programs. Alison holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Arts degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. She completed a post-master’s certificate in Program Evaluation through the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. Outside of work, Alison spends her free time travelling and hiking with her dog, Jenna.

Miles Ury, Quality Improvement Associate -  JCFS Chicago, Chicago, IL

Miles Ury designs outcome measurement and analysis methods, tracks and cleans data entry, and presents concise summaries and visualizations to both vocational and clinical programs. Miles joined JCFS Chicago in 2022, after earning his Bachelor's degree in archaeology and statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. When he's not working, he is learning a new overly-complicated board game or playing jazz.

Nicole Pratl, Quality Improvement Specialist - UCAN Chicago, Chicago, IL

Nicole Pratl is a Social Worker with a curiosity for how systems work. In her current role as a Quality Improvement Specialist for UCAN Chicago, Nicole supports the continuous improvement of social service programs including Workforce Development, Youth Development, and the Teen Parent Service Network of Illinois. This work involves managing quarterly utilization reviews, collaborating with program staff to establish and execute action plans, facilitating data review meetings, preparing and submitting funder-required outcomes reports, maintaining program logic models, and collaborating with the QI team to prepare the agency for its 2023 Counsel on Accreditation review. Nicole holds a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Organization and Community Practice from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC, and Bachelor of Social Work degree from Lewis University. Nicole’s passions for economic and racial justice are at the forefront of her professional goals. Her lived experience in the LGBTQ community provides her a deep understanding of the importance of intentional community and celebration of diversity. Nicole spends her free time reading, playing Nintendo Switch with friends, or going down an internet rabbit hole of her latest random topic of interest.
